[Dissecting Creativity with Pharrell Williams Pt. 1]
[Produced by HypeBeast | HBTV]
[Released May 2012]

Pharrell is a major role model of mine for a number of reasons: he personifies my [fuckconservatism] state of mind, he exudes a creative energy 24/7, and he’s a BOSS (in the coolest, laid-back kind of way). He touches on some really cool points in this video. Skip to 1:09 to get the good stuff.

“I think with everything you can do, you gotta have a taste and a tone. I don’t think that I’ve quite mastered it, but I’ve work really hard at it. And I got really good people around me too. You know what I’m saying, it can’t just be all you. You’re not gonna be a master of all trades. I just try to be, like, really good at a couple of things and just keep really smart people around me to, you know, challenge me.” - Pharrell Williams

It’s nice hearing him say that he hasn’t quite mastered his taste and tone just yet. It shows me that it’s not all about having every detail right by the age of 25. It’s just about how much and how hard you work at it.

[In the Frame, Out of the Box]

I love talented individuals that can think [outside of the box] to make brilliant work in an effortless fashion. For the Philipp Plein FW12 campaign, Terry Richardson conducted the shoot in a mirror-coated room and, taking a completely unconventional route, allowed himself to be seen in each shot. As you can see from the images below, the photos look great and, while his presence adds a totally cool element to the prints, he doesn’t take away from the clothing being shown. I think this is a great shoot and it shows what can come from creative thinking.
